Everyone’s journey to parenthood is unique. That’s why we offer an abundance of resources to help you no matter how you get there:
If your path to parenthood requires doctor’s visits and a hospital stay, you need to understand your coverage.

You may be eligible to receive a reimbursement of up to $10,000 for eligible expenses related to adoption or surrogacy.
To file for reimbursement, fill out the adoption reimbursement form or surrogacy reimbursement form.

First-time mothers who are enrolled in a Company BCBSMA medical plan can receive a reimbursement of up to $90 to take a childbirth class to prepare for the arrival of their new addition. And, after the first child, mothers are eligible for an additional $45 for refresher classes.

If you’re regularly scheduled to work at least 24 hours per week, you’re eligible for:
If you’ve worked for the Company for at least 12 months and have worked at least 1,250 hours over the previous 12 months, you’re also eligible for up to 12 weeks unpaid leave with job protection under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). FMLA runs at the same time as STD and Parental Leave, ensuring you have a job to return to. Note: If you are not eligible for FMLA, you may still be eligible for job protection a few different laws. You have 31 days from the date of birth, adoption, or surrogacy to make any allowed changes to your benefits. Take this time to ensure you have the health coverage and financial protection you need to support your growing family.

Don’t forget your documentation!
To add your new child to your benefits, you will need to show proof of eligibility, such as a birth certificate or adoption paperwork. Refer to Who Is Eligible for information on Dependent Verification.
Don’t put off getting started!
You can initiate benefit changes before you have the required documentation. Then submit your documents when you receive them.
If the birth certificate is not available in time, you can submit the hospital footprint card to ensure your new coverage takes effect.
It’s important to keep your beneficiary information up to date to ensure your life and AD&D benefits, 401(k), and Health Savings Account are distributed according to your wishes and in a timely manner.
