Fitness & Weight Loss Reimbursement

Earn money for keeping healthy habits! If you are enrolled in the Core, Buy-Up, or Consumer Choice medical plan options through BCBSMA, you are eligible for two reimbursement programs.

You can be reimbursed for up to $150 per family per year for certain fitness expenses.

Eligible Expenses

  • Membership fees at a full-service health club with cardio and strength-training equipment, such as treadmills, stationary bikes, weight machines, and free weights
  • Fitness class fees at a studio with instructor-led group classes, such as yoga, Pilates, Zumba®, kickboxing, indoor cycling/spinning, and others
  • Online fitness memberships, subscriptions, programs, or classes that provide cardiovascular and strength training using a digital platform, such as Peloton®, Barre3®, and more

How to Get Reimbursed

Fitness reimbursement can be granted for any single member or combination of members enrolled under the same Blue Cross Blue Shield health plan.

Be sure to keep copies of your proof of payment in case we request them from you. Proof of payment includes:

  • Receipts (cash/check/credit/electronic) for membership or class fees, clearly documenting your name, the fitness program name, and individual amounts charged with date paid
  • Your fitness program membership or participation agreement, clearly documenting your name and date signed

Request reimbursement through the MyBlue app from the App Store or Google Play or complete the Fitness Reimbursement Form.

Note: Reimbursement requests must be submitted by March 31 of the year following the year in which you incurred the cost. BCBS will make a reimbursement decision within 30 days of receiving a completed request. (Reimbursement may be considered taxable income, so you should consult a tax advisor if you have any questions.)

Eligible Expenses

Participation fees for:

  • Hospital-based programs and WW® in-person programs
  • WW online and other non-hospital programs (in-person or online) that combine healthy eating, exercise, and coaching sessions with certified health professionals such as nutritionists, registered dietitians, or exercise physiologists
